F.A.Q (there is more info inside plus  there is a shared message board where you can post your questions)
Q: Are pure breed dogs better pets than mongels (mixed breed dogs)?
Well, you know what I think about that - Ha Ha! Actually no dog is better than another - how they turn out all depends on their master. There is a well-known saying: 'bad dog, bad master' and that is almost always true! Mongrels like me make really good pets if we are treated well and loved with discipline. Breed dogs are often in danger of in-breeding because it costs a lot to get a good breeding dog to sire pups, so they may have more health and mental problems than us mongrels. The crucial issue for us is that we mongrels find it much harder to find a home because there are too many pet shops to cater for the fashion of owning a breed dog - sigh!
Q: Many owners feed their dogs with human food scraps and bones. Is this a good practice?
Well, again I am probably biased about this because my master feeds us (10 dogs) with quality dry dog biscuits mixed with rice and cooked chicken. No, it is not a good practice because scraps and bones provide insufficient nutrition for us to maintain good health with a good coat condition, plus this kind of diet makes us less likely to build resistance against disease.
Q: Is it true that breed dogs should be inside but mongrels should live outside in the yard?
No, this is not true! No dog should be made to live outside in cold or wet weather. Of course those of us with thicker coats can withstand cold better but we suffer more in hot weather. If your dog has to live outside then make sure you provide a warm and waterproof shelter. We need lots of outdoor walking and exercise, but should only sleep outside as a last resort! brrrr!

Don't abandon them!
There is a better way!

We want to help owners (and finders) of unwanted dogs and cats find a home for them. Send us a photo and description and we will post your pet here for people to check

Remember, it is your responsibility to make sure your animal is desexed and as healthy as possible - then it will be much easier to find a good home for them

For those of you who find an animal you think is abandoned, take a photo and send it with some details (including your phone number - but tell us if you don't want your number published) to our homing
e-mail address: home@doghouse-hk.org
